Netrins

A family of extracellular proteins that are related structurally to LAMININ. They function as CHEMOTACTIC FACTORS for CELL MIGRATION and AXON GUIDANCE, acting as chemoattractants for some cell types, and as chemorepellents for others.

Netrin; Netrin Family

07/24/2014 - "In this study we investigated the navigation of a set of pioneer longitudinal axons, the medial longitudinal fasciculus, in mouse embryos mutant for the Netrin/Deleted in Colorectal Cancer (DCC) attractants, and for Slit repellents, as well as the responses of explanted longitudinal axons in vitro. "
03/28/2007 - "Studies of both invertebrate and vertebrate systems support the idea that Netrin, secreted by midline cells, signals through DCC (Deleted in Colorectal Carcinoma)/UNC40/Frazzled receptors to attract commissural axons toward and across the midline, whereas Slit signals through Robo family receptors to prevent commissural axons from recrossing the midline, as well as to prevent ipsilateral axons from ever crossing. "
12/06/2022 - "Frazzled (Fra) and deleted in colorectal cancer (Dcc) are homologous receptors that promote axon attraction in response to netrin. "
11/30/2022 - "Later, during animal evolution, the last eumetazoan common ancestor (LEUMCA) acquired PGRMC phosphorylated tyrosines coincidentally with the gastrulation organizer, Netrin/deleted in colorectal carcinoma (DCC) signaling, muscle fibers, synapsed neurons, and neural recovery via a sleep-like process. "
01/01/2015 - "AMD-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) existed in 9 linkage disequilibrium-independent genomic regions; these included loci overlapping NTN1 (rs9899630, P ≤ 9.48 x 10(-5)), DCC (Deleted in Colorectal Cancer)--the gene encoding a primary NTN1 receptor (rs8097127, P ≤ 3.03 x 10(-5)), and 6 other netrin-related genes.
