[Breast cancer in men. Clinical analysis of 29 patients].

Abstract
Twenty nine cases of male patients with hystological diagnosis of breast cancer, were analyzed; all of them were treated at the Breast Service Oncology Hospital, National Medical Cancer. The frequency of breast cancer in men is about 1% of all malignancies of the breast gland. The tumor was localized in the retroareolar segment in 71% of the cases. The pathology diagnosis was ductal undifferentiated carcinoma. The lobulillar neoplasm was not found. Surgical treatment for the primary breast tumor was planned in 14 patients with clinical stage II, the best results were obtained in ten patients in which a Halsted classic radical mastectomy was performed. In six patients with locally advanced disease the prognosis was mortal soon after 18 months. The poorest prognosis occurred in four patients with stage IV. Ablative castration was done in eight patients as a palliative procedure with a very poor response. The prognosis was related to retarded diagnosis, clinical stage, site of tumor, and aggressivity of undifferentiated tumors.
