A biomechanical basis for the prescription of orthoses in the treatment of common running injuries.

Abstract
Orthoses are beneficial in the treatment of common running injuries. They limit abnormal pronation and reduce injurious torque to the musculotendinous structures of the leg and knee. Recent kinematic research has disputed this mechanism. An alternative model is proposed.
