Special coverage: Retroviruses Conference 2006. Treatment interruption continues to be controversial strategy in HIV care. CROI studies show mixed results.

Abstract
A variety of studies involving drug treatment interruption were presented at the 13th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI), held in Denver, CO, in February, and their conclusions were mixed. Some had results that provided reason to consider treatment interruption a possible strategy, and others found that it could place patients at greater risk for disease progression.
