Trichilemmal Cyst 1

A hereditary, autosomal dominant type of epidermal cyst that occurs primarily on the scalp. These cysts are easily enucleated, and are characterized by a well-keratinized epidermal wall surrounding semisolid hair keratin. They appear during adolescence as firm, smooth, white-walled cysts without a puncta. This phenotype has been mapped to chromosome 3p24-p21.2. OMIM: 609649
