Carbamazepine in the treatment of catatonia.

Abstract
Carbamazepine resolved within 6-24 hours the catatonic stupor in two patients, one with a schizophreniform and one with a schizoaffective disorder. Reports of frequent EEG abnormalities and the successful use of diazepam in catatonia prompted these trials with another anticonvulsant.
