[The use of oxygenated regenerated cellulose for hemostasis in cardiac surgery].

Abstract
Efficacy of the oxygenated regenerated cellulose Surgicel Nu-Knit as a hemostatic agent by coronary shunting operation was evaluated. 84 patients were included in the study. Surgicel was locally used in 32 of patients after sternotomy and during wound closure. Intraoperative blood loss in the group of interest was higher than in the control group: 1215,4+/-146,3 ml (14,9+/-3,1 ml/kg) vs. 1066,6+/-106,8 ml (11,5+/-3,3 ml/kg). Surgicel Nu-Knit for the sternum bleeding permitted a good hemostatic effect without wax use. Thereby total blood loss, in spite of intraoperative coagulopathy, did not differ from blood loss amount using common hemostatic techniques.
