Prevalence and characterization of pulmonary regurgitation in normal adult dogs.

Abstract
Prevalence of pulmonary regurgitation in normal adult dogs (n=30) was established by color Doppler echocardiographic evaluation. Pulmonary regurgitation was detected in 93% of dogs. Most dogs had regurgitation jets subjectively classfied as "trace" or "mild". Objective methods of classification of the regurgitation jets based on absolute measurements (mm; mm(2)) or measurements normalized to bodyweight (mm/kg; mm(2)/kg) did not agree completely with subjective classification. Most dogs (97%) had regurgitation jets <15 mm long and less than 10mm(2) in area.
