Effector Caspases

A subclass of caspases that contain short pro-domain regions. They are activated by the proteolytic action of INITIATOR CASPASES. Once activated they cleave a variety of substrates that cause APOPTOSIS.

11/15/2000 - "In the present studies we have examined whether TRAIL-induced apoptosis of melanoma was mediated by direct activation of effector caspases or whether apoptosis was dependent on changes in mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and mitochondrial-dependent pathways of apoptosis. "
03/01/2007 - "Cytochrome c release into cytosol, and the activation of effector caspases, estimated by PARP degradation clearly showed that during the spontaneous death in the cells from both melanoma lines intrinsic way of apoptosis was activated. "
01/26/2016 - "This was shown by extensive drug interaction analysis, tumor growth inhibition assays in-vivo, p-ERK and p-AKT inhibition, promotion of melanoma apoptosis, apoptosis-related protein modulation, activation of effector caspases and selective modulation of genes involved in melanoma drug resistance and belonging to the ERK/MAPK and PI3K/AKT canonical pathways. "
07/14/2011 - "Activation of effector caspases, chromatin condensation and DNA degradation, suggested that C7a activates the apoptotic intrinsic pathway in murine melanoma cells. "
12/01/2016 - "Such effect involved the activation of several caspases including (iii) initiator caspases 8, 9, 4 (indicating the involvement of intrinsic, extrinsic and endoplasmic reticulum-based pathways) and (iv) effector caspases 3, 7 and 6. Utilization of low isothiocyanate concentrations (under the conditions described herein) exerts an anti-cancer effect specific to human malignant melanoma cells thus providing a therapeutic basis for their utilization in management of the disease."
