Caspase 3 (Caspase-3)

A short pro-domain caspase that plays an effector role in APOPTOSIS. It is activated by INITIATOR CASPASES such as CASPASE 9. Isoforms of this protein exist due to multiple alternative splicing of its MESSENGER RNA.
Also Known As:
Caspase-3; Procaspase-3; Apopain; Pro-Caspase-3; Pro Caspase 3; Procaspase 3; CASP3

04/01/2015 - "We found that (1) TNFR:Fc gene improved cardiac function (EF, LVESP, LVEDP and dp/dt max) post I/R-induced AMI; (2) TNFR:Fc gene inhibited I/R-induced apoptosis and attenuated the level of TNF-α in serum and cardiac tissue; (3) TNFR:Fc gene prevented apoptosis in hypoxia/reoxygenation-induced H9c2 rat cardiomyocytes associated with inhibition of caspase-3 activation and normalization of ratio of the Bcl-2/Bax. "
05/01/2014 - "This study aims at assessing different procedures using an extracorporeal perfusion and oxygenation system to investigate the expression of hypoxia inducible factor (HIF)-1-α as marker for hypoxia and of the pro-apoptotic protein Caspase-3 in skeletal muscle to elucidate potential improvements in tissue conservation. "
07/01/2008 - "The present study tested the hypothesis that mechanism of DNA fragmentation during hypoxia in the cerebral cortex of newborn piglets is mediated by caspase-9-dependent caspase-3 activation. "
03/01/2008 - "Overall results of the present study indicate that hypoxia induces luteal cell apoptosis by enhancing the expression of proapoptotic protein, BNIP3, and by activating caspase-3, and that the induction of apoptosis by hypoxia is partially caused by a decrease in P4 production. "
10/01/2005 - "While fundamental differences between hypoxia/ischaemia in culture and in vivo likely explain the different temporal profiles of Nix, Bax, and caspase-3 activation observed, these studies show that like Bax, mitochondrial accumulation is a common event during Nix activation. "
