Dopamine Plasma Membrane Transport Proteins (Dopamine Transporter)

Sodium chloride-dependent neurotransmitter symporters located primarily on the PLASMA MEMBRANE of dopaminergic neurons. They remove DOPAMINE from the EXTRACELLULAR SPACE by high affinity reuptake into PRESYNAPTIC TERMINALS and are the target of DOPAMINE UPTAKE INHIBITORS.

11/01/2012 - "We found that in the right-handed Parkinson's disease cohort, the number of patients who had lower dopamine transporter uptake in the left posterior putamen was significantly greater compared with those with lower uptake in the right posterior putamen (Parkinson's disease-left group, n = 49; Parkinson's disease-right group, n = 19; P < 0.001). "
10/01/1999 - "In particular, the development of new radiotracers that target the dopamine transporter located on degenerating dopamine neurons in Parkinson's disease and related disorders is directly relevant to improved clinical diagnosis, disease monitoring, and assessment of putative neuroprotective strategies in patients. "
01/01/2014 - "Disclosure of imaging information resulted in improved understanding of parkinsonian symptoms in nearly half of subjects, and less belief among 'no dopamine transporter deficit' subjects that they had a diagnosis of Parkinson disease."
05/15/2003 - "The homozygote 10-copy genotype of variable number tandem repeat dopamine transporter gene may confer protection against Parkinson's disease for male, but not to female patients."
01/01/2023 - "This study investigates the association between the basal ganglia dopamine transporter availability and the hearing function in Parkinson's disease patients, focusing also on the lateralization of both dysfunctions, with respect to that of the motor symptoms, and introducing a further distinction between patients with left-sided and right-sided predominant motor symptoms.
