Choroid Plexus Papilloma

A usually benign neoplasm that arises from the cuboidal epithelium of the choroid plexus and takes the form of an enlarged CHOROID PLEXUS, which may be associated with oversecretion of CSF. The tumor usually presents in the first decade of life with signs of increased intracranial pressure including HEADACHES; ATAXIA; DIPLOPIA; and alterations of mental status. In children it is most common in the lateral ventricles and in adults it tends to arise in the fourth ventricle. Malignant transformation to choroid plexus carcinomas may rarely occur. 01/01/2001 - "Histologically, choroid plexus papillomas correspond to WHO grade I, choroid plexus carcinomas to WHO grade III. Immunohistochemically, cytokeratins and vimentin are expressed by virtually all choroid plexus papillomas and most choroid plexus carcinomas while transthyretin and S-100 protein are present in 80-90% of cases, less frequently, though, in choroid plexus carcinomas. "
07/01/1998 - "The choroid plexus papilloma was strongly positive for epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), keratin, S-100 protein and vimentin, and positive for GFAP in places. "
01/01/1986 - "Immunostaining patterns of two glia-associated proteins, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and S-100 protein (S100P), were compared using the peroxidase-antiperoxidase (PAP) method on adjacent paraffin sections in 100 brain tumors including 52 astroglial tumors, 13 oligodendrogliomas, 14 ependymomas, 13 choroid plexus papillomas and 8 medulloblastomas. "
07/01/1989 - "Eleven benign and five malignant choroid plexus papillomas in children and adults were studied immunohistologically with a panel of antibodies against glial fibrillary acidic protein, S-100 protein, vimentin, desmin, epithelial membrane antigen and two different cytokeratins (LP34 and CAM 5.2). "
12/01/1991 - "An immunohistochemical study of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), S-100 protein, cytokeratin (CKER), epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), and transthyretin (TTR) was carried out on 11 cases of choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) and 19 of ependymoma, using the peroxidase antiperoxidase technique.
