O(6)-Methylguanine-DNA Methyltransferase

An enzyme that transfers methyl groups from O(6)-methylguanine, and other methylated moieties of DNA, to a cysteine residue in itself, thus repairing alkylated DNA in a single-step reaction. EC 2.1.1.63.
Also Known As:
DNA Repair Methyltransferase I; DNA Repair Methyltransferase II; Guanine-O(6)-Alkyltransferase; O(6)-Alkylguanine-DNA Alkyltransferase; O(6)-MeG-DNA Methyltransferase; O(6)-Methylguanine DNA Transmethylase; Methylated DNA Protein Cysteine S Methyltransferase; S-Methyltransferase, Methylated-DNA-Protein-Cysteine; Methylated-DNA-Protein-Cysteine S-Methyltransferase; O(6)-AGT; O(6)-Methylguanine Methyltransferase; DNA-6-O-methylguanine:protein-L-cysteine S-methyltransferase

06/01/2010 - "O(6)-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter methylation is significantly less frequent in ependymal tumours as compared to malignant astrocytic gliomas."
01/01/2005 - "TP53 mutations are significantly more frequent in low-grade astrocytomas with promoter methylation of the O(6)-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase repair gene, suggesting that, in addition to deamination of 5-methylcytosine, exogenous or endogenous alkylation in the O(6) position of guanine may contribute to the formation of these mutations."
02/01/2014 - "As the presence of the p.R132H mutation in the IDH1 gene seems to be a more powerful prognostic marker than O(6)-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase promoter status, we evaluated the presence of IDH1 mutation in Polish patients with astrocytoma, glioblastoma, oligoastrocytoma, ganglioglioma, oligodendroglioma, and ependymoma.
