5,6-Dihydroxytryptamine (5,6 Dihydroxytryptamine)
Tryptamine substituted with two hydroxyl groups in positions 5 and 6. It is a neurotoxic serotonin analog that destroys serotonergic neurons preferentially and is used in neuropharmacologic research.
Also Known As:
5,6 Dihydroxytryptamine
; 3-(2-Aminoethyl)indole-5,6-diol; 1H-Indole-5,6-diol, 3-(2-aminoethyl)-

Depletion of brain 5-hydroxytryptamine (with 5,6-dihydroxytryptamine and p-chlorophenylalanine) did not alter the PGE1-induced hypothermia.

Tremor (Tremors)
08/01/1982 - "
A median raphe electrolytic lesion affecting 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) neurones had no effect on tremor and rigidity, whereas lesioning the dorsal raphe electrolytically or by injecting 5,6-dihydroxytryptamine prevented rigidity without affecting tremor.
"
08/05/1977 - "
In the rat, the selective removal of the serotoninergic innervation--produced by an intraventricular injection of 5,6-dihydroxytryptamine, or 5,7-dihydroxytryptamine in combination with desipramine--caused a significant attenuation of both the tremor and the climbing fibre activity induced by an intravenous harmaline injection.

Hypersensitivity (Allergy)
11/01/1978 - "
The possibility that intraventricular administration of 5,6-dihydroxytryptamine (5,6-DHT) can cause a development of denervation hypersensitivity to central 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) was examined in rats with special reference to the pituitary-adrenocortical functions.
"
01/01/1982 - "
Also in a state of 5-HT receptor hypersensitivity (rats treated early with 5,6-dihydroxytryptamine), the response of Na+-K+-ATPase to the 5-HT agonist was higher than without neurotoxic lesion of 5-HT paths.
