RNA-Directed DNA Polymerase (Reverse Transcriptase)

An enzyme that synthesizes DNA on an RNA template. It is encoded by the pol gene of retroviruses and by certain retrovirus-like elements. EC 2.7.7.49.
Also Known As:
Reverse Transcriptase; RNA Transcriptase; Revertase; DNA Polymerase, RNA Directed; DNA Polymerase, RNA-Dependent; RNA Dependent DNA Polymerase; RNA Directed DNA Polymerase; DNA Polymerase, RNA-Directed; RNA-Dependent DNA Polymerase; Deoxynucleotide-triphosphate:DNA deoxynucleotidyltransferase (RNA-directed)

03/01/2022 - "The gold standard for diagnosing severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is microbiological confirmation by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)1 most commonly done using oropharyngeal (OP) and nasopharyngeal swabs (NP). "
01/01/2001 - "This agent was highly effective against HIV replication regardless of the addition period during early stages of infection (adsorption to integration) but did not inhibit reverse transcriptase activity directly. "
01/01/2023 - "While Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) represents the diagnostic gold standard of infection, computed tomography (CT) has been shown to have an important role in supporting the diagnosis, quantifying the severity, and assessing the efficacy of treatment and its response. "
02/01/2023 - "Although real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (real-time RT-PCR) remains as a golden standard for detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, it can not be easily expanded to large-scaled screening during outbreaks, and the positive results do not necessarily correlate with infectious status of the identified subjects. "
01/01/2023 - "Reverse-transcriptase (RT) quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) assays are the current gold-standard in diagnosis and serotyping of infections, but their use in low-middle income countries (LMICs) has been limited by laboratory infrastructure requirements. "
