Pleomorphic Adenoma

A benign, slow-growing tumor, most commonly of the salivary gland, occurring as a small, painless, firm nodule, usually of the parotid gland, but also found in any major or accessory salivary gland anywhere in the oral cavity. It is most often seen in women in the fifth decade. Histologically, the tumor presents a variety of cells: cuboidal, columnar, and squamous cells, showing all forms of epithelial growth. 3. Neck Dissection (Radical Neck Dissection)
04/01/2020 - "The indications were chronic sialoadenitis (67.7%), pleomorphic adenoma (12.9%) and as a part of neck dissection for oncologic clearance of neck (19.4%). "
12/01/2007 - "The adequacy of primary surgery is crucial and supports an approach for a more radical excision primarily by a selective level lb, IIa and III neck dissection; ensuring complete disease clearance for pleomorphic adenoma, avoiding the risks of tumour spillage associated with a limited excision and tumour handling; and removing the primary echelon of lymph nodes at risk of metastasis if the pathology turns out to be malignant."
02/01/2003 - "Initially and after consultation at an outside institution, the FNAB was reported as an "atypical neoplasm, cannot exclude mucoepidermoid carcinoma." A total, nerve-sparing parotidectomy and level II neck dissection revealed a pleomorphic adenoma with central cystic degeneration and extensive mixed appendageal differentiation. "
07/01/2019 - "The impact of following factors on 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) was studied: age, sex, preoperative 7th nerve palsy, skin infiltration, pT, pN, surgical margin, type of parotidectomy and neck dissection, histology (SDC de novo vs. SDC ex pleomorphic adenoma, SDCexPA), intra/periparotid lymph nodes metastases, perineural invasion (PNI), extraparenchymal extension (EPE), and overexpression HER2. "
12/01/2019 - "The findings of this study support the use of routine neck dissection for the treatment of high-grade, invasive carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma, salivary duct carcinoma, high-grade adenocarcinoma NOS, adenoid cystic carcinoma, and high-grade acinic cell carcinoma."
