Fibrinogen (Factor I)

Plasma glycoprotein clotted by thrombin, composed of a dimer of three non-identical pairs of polypeptide chains (alpha, beta, gamma) held together by disulfide bonds. Fibrinogen clotting is a sol-gel change involving complex molecular arrangements: whereas fibrinogen is cleaved by thrombin to form polypeptides A and B, the proteolytic action of other enzymes yields different fibrinogen degradation products.

08/01/2015 - "Receiver operating characteristic analyses showed that including plasma fibrinogen level alongside traditional factors (tumor stage and CA 19-9) significantly improved prognostic prediction capability (traditional model area under the curve of 0.62 versus combined model area under the curve of 0.708; P = 0.016). "
01/01/2016 - "In a univariate survival analysis, tumor stage, tumor size, lymph node involvement (p<0.001/p<0.001) and plasma fibrinogen (p<0.001/p<0.001) levels were associated with disease-free and overall survival, but just lymph nodes involvement (p<0.001, hazard ratio [HR] = 2.9, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.6-5.3/p = 0.006, HR = 3.2, 95% CI = 1.4-7.3) and plasma fibrinogen levels (p = 0.006, HR = 3.4, 95% CI = 1.4-8.3/p = 0.002, HR = 10.1, 95% CI = 2.3-44.6) were associated with disease-free and overall survival in a multivariate survival analysis, respectively. "
03/01/2012 - "In a multivariate survival analysis, tumor stage (p=0.006/p=0.02) and lymph node involvement (p<0.001/p<0.001), but neither histological grade (p=0.2/p=0.9) nor plasma fibrinogen levels (p=0.6/p=0.6) were associated with disease-free and overall survival, respectively. "
04/30/1983 - "In these patients, the behavior of fibrinogen was normal, suggesting that the parameters studied are related to the presence of the tumor, and can be useful in monitoring the state of remission."
08/01/1977 - "A combination of the large tumour concentration of I-fibrinogen, an increased catabolic rate induced by chemical modification, and the exceptional nuclear properties of 123I for scintigraphic imaging, could lead to a very useful radiodiagnostic procedure for cancer."
