Neoplasms (Cancer)

In eight mouse mammary tumors with varying growth fractions DNA and non-histone nuclear protein (NHNP) were determined by absorption cytophotometry of Feulgen-Naphthol Yellow S stained, isolated cells.

In order to study differences in the tumor growth and frequency of metastases between younger and older patients with lung cancer, we investigated the nuclear DNA and nuclear protein according to age by means of cytophotometry after combined staining with Feulgen and Naphthol Yellow S.

Tetraploidy
08/01/1979 - "
When the protein content of individual isolated hepatocytes of different ploidy classes is analysed cytophotometrically using the specific protein stain Naphthol Yellow S, it appears that the growth in mass in the period 30-99 days is due mainly to increase of protein content of binuclear diploid (BD) and mononuclear tetraploid (MT) cells.
"
07/01/1990 - "
This hypothesis was tested in three ways: (1) non-cycling G2 nuclei were stained with a combination of Feulgen and naphthol yellow which revealed two populations, one with a low protein content and the other with a high protein content--the latter may represent nuclei ready to begin a new phase of DNA synthesis; (2) Feulgen staining and autoradiography were performed after tritiated thymidine had been administered to mice continuously: this showed that there were cells synthesizing DNA with a DNA index above 2; and (3) cells having 80 chromosomes, corresponding to the tetraploid cycle, were found almost exclusively in the plateau phase tumours.

Embryonal Carcinoma
06/01/1988 - "
In the present work, PCC3 embryonal carcinoma (EC) cells were studied as undifferentiated G1 sister pairs by microspectrophotometry (MSP) following Feulgen-Naphthol Yellow staining (FNYS), in order to evaluate their protein content.
