Abstract |
The allergenic properties of thomycide, an antibacterial substance produced by Streptococcus sp., Thom-1606 active against Streptococci, Staphylococci and Ps. aeruginosa were studied in the reactions of hypersensitivity of immediate (HIT) and delayed (HRT) types. It was found that thomycide induced no HIT in guinea-pigs sensitized with the preparation. The reaction of HRT was slightly pronounced in the animals and must be defined by the nutrient medium used for the strain growth. Preliminary exposure of the animals to thomycide resulted in lower levels of anaphylactic reactions in the animals sensitized with cattle serum.
