Antiviral agents: clinical status report.

Abstract
Recently, the clinical focus in antiviral chemotherapy has been on the use of ara-A in herpes infections-HSV encephalitis, zoster in the immunosuppressed, and neonatal herpes. In this last article of a four-part series, the authors review clinical studies that have to date led to the licensing of ara-A for HSV encephalitis but have not yet clearly defined its role in the immunosuppressed or in neonates.
