[Serum fructosamine and oral contraception].

Abstract
In 21 normal women on the combined oral contraceptive pill we examined the level of serum fructosamine before, and 3-5 months after starting the pill. The mean serum fructosamine concentration did not change significantly after administration of the pill (2.17 mmol/l before and 2.22 after). It increased in 14 (66.6%) and decreased in 7. Thus the screening of fructosamine levels is not a useful method of detecting glucose intolerance, a known side-effect of the combined oral contraceptive pill.
