[Cytomorphological characteristics and verification of tumors of the adipose tissue]

AbstractAnalysis of histo-cytologic findings in 171 cases with various tumors of the fatty tissue has shown that the cytograms of such tumors are sufficiently specific, this permitting a correct identification of the type of involvement from the puncture biopsy specimen in 81% of cases and from impressions in 92.3%, and helping diagnose the histologic variety in 28 and 57% of cases, respectively. Therefore, cytologic examinations of puncture biopsy specimens and impressions of the soft tissue tumors may become an obligatory component of a multiple-modality diagnosis, in both preoperative interventions and in the intraoperative period.
