Recent advances in magnetic resonance are discussed in the context of current publications in Investigative Radiology. The articles relating to this subject, published during 2008 and 2009, are reviewed, evaluating developments by anatomic region. An important major focus of the journal is technologic advance, featuring in particular basic science investigation, and clinical studies at 3 T. The discussion concludes with a short section focusing on magnetic resonance contrast media, referencing recent studies in the journal, and examining specifically the impact of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis.
