[Investigations on the prophylaxis of wound infection by the topical application of a combination of polymyxin-b, bacitracin and neomycin (polybactrin spray) (author's transl)].

Abstract
A controlled prospective trial was carried out on 100 cases of appendicectomy for a suppurative or perforated apendix, 153 operations on the biliary tract and 25 abdominal colon and rectum resections. The topical administration of Polybactrin aerosol, sprayed once into the open laparotomy wound produced a significant reduction in postoperative wound infection.
