PRO: Should Aspirin Be Used in All Women Older Than 65 Years to Prevent Stroke?

AbstractA number of studies have reported that aspirin is beneficial in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. A meta-analysis of data from 3 studies of the cardioprotective effect of aspirin in women has reported that use of aspirin reduces the risk of coronary events mainly by reducing the risk of ischemic stroke. Results of the Women's Health Study showed that although there is a risk of bleeding events with aspirin use, overall this risk is outweighed by the number of strokes prevented.
