Onset of severe refractory thrombocytopenia following surgery in a patient with type 2B von Willebrand disease--a case report.

Abstract
A case of a severe thrombocytopenia occurring in a patient with type 2B von Willebrand disease following an esophagectomy is described. As platelet transfusions were ineffective due to alloimunization, effective hemostasis was achieved only with the factor VIII/von Willebrand factor concentrate Haemate P.
