Closure of gastrointestinal fistulas using fibrin sealant under fistulography.

AbstractIt is important to find a method for promoting spontaneous closure of gastrointestinal fistulas with fibrin sealant. Twenty-seven patients presented with gastrointestinal fistulas underwent the selective fibrin sealant occlusion method under fistulography. Fistula occlusion was obtained within 2 weeks in 25 of the 27 patients, and there has been no sign of recurrence over a follow-up period of 1-17 months (average, 5.6 months). It is concluded that selective occlusion under fistulography is highly effective for gastrointestinal fistulas.
