Peroxiredoxins

A family of ubiquitously-expressed peroxidases that play a role in the reduction of a broad spectrum of PEROXIDES like HYDROGEN PEROXIDE; LIPID PEROXIDES and peroxinitrite. They are found in a wide range of organisms, such as BACTERIA; PLANTS; and MAMMALS. The enzyme requires the presence of a thiol-containing intermediate such as THIOREDOXIN as a reducing cofactor.
Also Known As:
Alkyl Hydroperoxide Reductase; Alkyl Hydroperoxide Reductase C; Alkyl Hydroperoxide Reductase D; Alkylhydroperoxide Reductase; Peroxidoxin; Peroxiredoxin 1; Peroxiredoxin 2; Peroxiredoxin 4; Peroxiredoxin 5; Peroxiredoxin I; Peroxiredoxin II; Peroxiredoxin IV; Peroxiredoxin V; Peroxiredoxin-4; Protector Protein (Mixed-Function Oxidase Systems); Thiol-Specific Antioxidant Protein; Thioredoxin Peroxidase; Thioredoxin Peroxidase 1; Thioredoxin Peroxidase 2; Thioredoxin Peroxidase PMP20; Thioredoxin-Dependent Peroxide Reductase 1; Thioredoxin-Dependent Peroxide Reductase 2; Hydroperoxide Reductase, Alkyl; Thiol Specific Antioxidant Protein; Thioredoxin Dependent Peroxide Reductase 1; Thioredoxin Dependent Peroxide Reductase 2; Peroxiredoxin
