Description:
A ligand that binds to but fails to activate the INTERLEUKIN-1 RECEPTOR. It plays an inhibitory role in the regulation of INFLAMMATION and FEVER. Several isoforms of the protein exist due to multiple ALTERNATIVE SPLICING of its mRNA.

- " CONCLUSION: This gene therapy, by combining highly efficient and stable rAAV gene delivery, disease-regulated gene expression, and the antiinflammatory effect of IL-1Ra, provides a valuable approach for long-term protection against, and prevention of, arthritis." 12/01/2005
- " However despite its rather disappointing effect in polyarticular arthritis, anakinra is being discovered as an effective treatment of systemic arthritis and children with mutations in the NALP3/CIAS1/PYPAF1 genes leading to autoimmune inflammatory disorders such as neonatal- onset multisystem inflammatory disease." 01/01/2003
- " Daily bolus injections of IL-1Ra may therefore be useful for protection against joint damage following minor joint injury, whereas the maintenance of appropriate blood levels of the antagonist may be critical for its therapeutic effect on chronic inflammatory arthritis." 01/01/2003
- " CONCLUSION: Daily administration of recombinant IL-1Ra, injected at the same time as arthritis induction, is effective in blocking the occurrence of inflammatory as well as destructive changes in CIA" 01/01/2001
- " Recombinant human IL-1Ra (rhu-IL-1Ra) has been evaluated in RA in several randomised clinical trials and was shown to significantly reduce both the clinical manifestations of arthritis and the rate of progressive joint damage"
