349  relevant articles (25 outcomes, 52 trials/studies) found for this Disease

Description: A syndrome characterized by the acute onset of unilateral FACIAL PARALYSIS which progresses over a 2-5 day period. Weakness of the orbicularis oculi muscle and resulting incomplete eye closure may be associated with corneal injury. Pain behind the ear often precedes the onset of paralysis. This condition may be associated with HERPESVIRUS 1, HUMAN infection of the facial nerve. (Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p1376)

01/01/2003 - "MATERIALS AND METHODS: Magnetic resonance images with a 0.7 mm slice thickness (surface coil) were obtained in patients with idiopathic facial paralysis before and after administration of Gd-DTPA, 0.1 mmol/kg. The five intratemporal segments of the facial nerve were quantitatively measured and subjectively assessed by five radiologists as to the degree of enhancement"
01/01/1995 - "A group of patients complaining of facial nerve palsy (Bell's palsy) were evaluated with MRI using a 0.5 unit and high resolution T1-weighted images, in order to evaluate the efficacy of Gd-DTPA enhancement in depicting the degree of nerve damage: MRI examination was performed within 24 hours to two weeks after the onset of palsy"
09/01/1995 - "In recent gadolinium-DTPA enhanced MRI (Gd-MRI) studies it has unequivocally been demonstrated that ipsilateral facial nerve contrast enhancement, predominantly in the meatal portion, is present in both Bell's palsy and herpes zoster oticus"
11/01/1997 - "Eleven patients with mild or moderate acute idiopathic peripheral facial palsy, so-called Bell's palsy, were serially examined by gadolinium-DTPA-enhanced MRI on mean days 11, 40, and 97 (third examination, n = 10) after the onset of palsy"
02/01/1997 - "We examined a series of 21 peripheral facial palsy patients attempted to (17 Bell's palsy, 4 Hunt syndrome) with Gd-DTPA-enhanced MRI and attempted to determine the relation between prognosis and MRI findings"
