Cardiac Sudden Death (Sudden Cardiac Arrest)

1699  relevant articles (101 outcomes, 252 trials/studies) found for this Disease

Description: Unexpected rapid natural death due to cardiovascular collapse within one hour of initial symptoms. It is usually caused by the worsening of existing heart diseases. The sudden onset of symptoms, such as CHEST PAIN and CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIAS, particularly VENTRICULAR TACHYCARDIA, can lead to the loss of consciousness and cardiac arrest followed by biological death. (from Braunwald's Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine, 7th ed., 2005)

02/01/2005 - "CONCLUSIONS: Sudden cardiac death was correlated with atherosclerotic heart disease and nephropathy, and to a lesser degree with DAN and HDL cholesterol. "
07/13/1998 - "METHODS: Using nested case-control design and logistic regression analysis, we estimated the association between serum immunoglobulins and the risk of coronary end points (nonfatal or fatal myocardial infarction or sudden cardiac death) in dyslipidemic men (levels of non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol >5.2 mmol/L [>201 mg/dL]) participating in the Helsinki Heart Study. "
08/01/2000 - "In intervention trials it was without exception possible to influence the development of atherosclerosis by a reduction of the LDL-cholesterol and an increase in HDL-cholesterol and to reduce complications like myocardial infarction, sudden cardiac death, angina or heart failure. "
10/01/2009 - "In a Cox model adjusting for other coronary risk factors (age, systolic blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, serum low-density lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, body mass index, and exercise-induced myocardial ischemia), men with the D/D or I/D genotype had 1.97 times (95% CI 1.08-3.59, P = .026) higher risk to experience sudden cardiac death (20 events for D/D genotype, 13 events for I/I genotype, and 43 events for I/D genotype) compared with men carrying the I/I genotype. "
12/01/2001 - "For 5608 men and 997 postmenopausal women without clinical evidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) who had average low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and below average high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), 20-40 mg/day lovastatin reduced first acute major coronary events (AMCEs) 37% (for those receiving placebo and lovastatin, respectively, 183 and 116 first AMCEs defined as fatal or nonfatal myocardial infarction [MI], unstable angina, or sudden cardiac death; relative risk [RR] 0.63; 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 0.50, 0.79; p < 0.001).
