Granular Cell Tumor

141  relevant articles (2 outcomes, 13 trials/studies) found for this Disease

Description: Unusual tumor affecting any site of the body, but most often encountered in the head and neck. Considerable debate has surrounded the histogenesis of this neoplasm; however, it is considered to be a myoblastoma of, usually, a benign nature. It affects women more often than men. When it develops beneath the epidermis or mucous membrane, it can lead to proliferation of the squamous cells and mimic squamous cell carcinoma.

05/01/2001 - "Pathological analysis demonstrated a granular cell tumor that was strongly positive for protein S-100 and negative for cytokeratin AE1-AE3 and CEA"
01/01/1995 - "Immunohistochemical studies demonstrated that these cells stained positive for KP1 (CD68) confirming their histiocytic nature, and negative for cytokeratin and S-100 protein excluding the diagnoses of carcinoma and granular cell tumor respectively"
10/01/1989 - "Thirty-one granular cell lesions (26 granular cell tumors [GCT] and five other granular cell lesions) from 18 different sites were evaluated immunohistochemically for keratins, vimentin, desmin, muscle actin, ACT, HLA-DR, and S-100 protein"
06/01/1986 - "Five cases of alveolar soft part sarcoma, 5 cases of granular cell tumor, and 6 cases of paraganglioma were investigated immunohistochemically to examine the expression of tissue-specific intermediate filaments (cytokeratin, vimentin, desmin, and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP], actin, myoglobin, and nervous tissue markers (S-100 protein, neuron-specific enolase, and Leu-7)"
11/01/1994 - "The monoclonal antibody KP-1 that recognizes the lysosome-associated glycoprotein CD68 was used together with antibodies to other antigens (actin, glial fibrillary acidic protein, keratin, neurofilaments, chromogranin, synaptophysin, S-100 protein, HMB-45, lysozyme, and HLA-DR) in a labeled streptavidin biotin immunoperoxidase method to phenotypically characterize 27 granular cell tumors, five schwannomas, five neurofibromas, two ganglioneuromas, three ganglioneuroblastomas, five carcinoid tumors, five malignant melanomas, and five examples of histiocytosis X. The neoplastic cells in all 27 of the granular cell tumors and four of the five schwannomas strongly stained for CD68, whereas none of the neurofibromas, ganglioneuromas, ganglioneuroblastomas, or carcinoid tumors contained CD68-positive tumor cells"
