Description:
Cyclical movement of a body part that can represent either a physiologic process or a manifestation of disease. Intention or action tremor, a common manifestation of CEREBELLAR DISEASES, is aggravated by movement. In contrast, resting tremor is maximal when there is no attempt at voluntary movement, and occurs as a relatively frequent manifestation of PARKINSON DISEASE.

- " In both cases, levodopa dramatically improved the tremor" 08/01/1999
- " Two patients had resting and postural tremor, which showed a marked improvement with treatment with levodopa" 04/01/1983
- " In untreated or levodopa-treated patients, there was considerable improvement of akinesia, rigidity, and tremor; on-off symptoms also improved in the levodopa-treated patients" 10/01/1995
- " This study shows that the net postural tremor exhibited by PD patients is improved by levodopa, that levodopa does not augment tremor in the 8- to 12-Hz range, and that this effect is independent of the patient's motor response pattern of oral levodopa." 03/15/2007
- " In humans, such lesions lead to specific motor abnormalities (i.e., akinesia, rigidity, and tremor) that are greatly improved by levodopa treatment"
