Thimerosal (Thiomersal)

An ethylmercury-sulfidobenzoate that has been used as a preservative in VACCINES; ANTIVENINS; and OINTMENTS. It was formerly used as a topical antiseptic. It degrades to ethylmercury and thiosalicylate.
Also Known As:
Thiomersal; Merthiolate; Sodium Ethylmercurithiosalicylate; Vitaseptol; Ethylmercurithiosalicylate, Sodium; Mercurothiolate; Thiomersalate; Mercurate(1-), ethyl(2-mercaptobenzoato(2-)-O,S)-, sodium
