01/01/2009 - "CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The soft tissues at highest risk of developing pericoronitis are those adjacent to mandibular third molars that are partially erupted, in a vertical position, and erupted to the level of or above the occlusal plane."
03/01/2008 - "Mandibular third molars at or near to the same level of the occlusal plane of the arch and exhibiting vertical inclination were considered at highest risk for developing pericoronitis. "
03/01/2008 - "In 57% of the cases, pericoronitis was associated with the third molars that erupted at the same level of the adjacent tooth occlusal plane. "
06/01/1995 - " results showed that the teeth at greatest risk in relation to acute pericoronitis are vertical unerupted lower third molar (79%),at or below the occlusal plane (66% and 30%),partially covered by soft tissue (>1/2 is 64% and <1/2 is 36% respectively),and existed opposite teeth (66%).The three indexes of vertical impaction had significant difference compared with other impactions(P<0.025).Meanwhile it was also obvious difference(P<0.025) compared with the same indexes within vertical impaction that verified it was easier to suffer acute pericoronitis in such conditions as at or below occlusal plane more than half encapsulated by soft tissue and existed opposite teeth than other conditions. Therefore"
03/01/1992 - "The majority of pericoronitis cases, 120 of 148 or 81.0%, involved vertically oriented MTMs; of this total, 79.1% were erupted to the approximate height of the occlusal plane of the arch. "
