Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome

A potentially fatal syndrome associated primarily with the use of neuroleptic agents (see ANTIPSYCHOTIC AGENTS) which are in turn associated with dopaminergic receptor blockade (see RECEPTORS, DOPAMINE) in the BASAL GANGLIA and HYPOTHALAMUS, and sympathetic dysregulation. Clinical features include diffuse MUSCLE RIGIDITY; TREMOR; high FEVER; diaphoresis; labile blood pressure; cognitive dysfunction; and autonomic disturbances. Serum CPK level elevation and a leukocytosis may also be present. (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p1199; Psychiatr Serv 1998 Sep;49(9):1163-72)

Ranking and Evidence
*WARNING* This specific disease subtype has a relatively small number of significant evidence outcomes. You may proceed to order anyway, or go back to the search field and enter a more general type of the target illness. Once your report has been ordered, however, we can't refund the purchase.

CureHunter Patient-Physician Summary Reports collect in one document all the medications ever reported in the US National Library of Medicine—1949 to the present—to be effective against your target disease. Analytic charts allow you and your physicians to see at a glance the treatment options—including new, promising, off-label and experimental.
