Fibrocystic Breast Disease (Chronic Cystic Mastitis)

A common and benign breast disease characterized by varying degree of fibrocystic changes in the breast tissue. There are three major patterns of morphological changes, including FIBROSIS, formation of CYSTS, and proliferation of glandular tissue (adenosis). The fibrocystic breast has a dense irregular, lumpy, bumpy consistency.

01/01/2016 - "This study examined HPV infection by GenChip technology, constitutively active Stat3 (p-Stat3) and IL-17 levels by immunohistochemistry (IHC) using specific antibodies in 379 BC patients, together with 245 paired adjacent breast adenosis (ABA) tissues and 100 unrelated breast adenosis (BA) tissues. "
01/01/2003 - "In the present study we first examined 21 different cases of benign fibrocystic breast disease for vasopressin expression using immunohistochemistry and antibodies directed against vasopressin (anti-VP) and against vasopressin-associated glycopeptide (anti-VAG). "
01/01/1981 - "Antibodies to prekeratin which characterize cells of epithelial origin, and antibodies to vimentin which recognize cells of mesenchymal origin have been used to study twenty cases of breast carcinoma (sixteen infiltrating ductal carcinomas and four infiltrating intraductal carcinomas), two cases of cystic breast disease, two fibroadenomas and one case of benign cystosarcoma phylloides. "
01/01/1985 - "The matrix of mammary dysplasia, noninvasive ductal carcinoma, and invasive lobular and ductal carcinoma was analyzed by indirect immunofluorescence using antibodies to types I, proIII, III, and IV collagens, and laminin and fibronectin. "
05/01/1993 - "Twelve examples of microglandular adenosis (MA) were evaluated immunohistochemically using a panel of antibodies directed against actin, S-100 protein, collagen type IV, the c-erb-B2 gene product, and the progesterone receptor, as well as antibodies BER-EP4 and B72.3. The results were compared with the reactions observed in 15 cases of tubular carcinoma and 11 examples of sclerosing adenosis. "
