Duane Retraction Syndrome (Duane Syndrome)

30  relevant articles (2 outcomes, 1 trials/studies) found for this Disease

Description: A syndrome characterized by marked limitation of abduction of the eye, variable limitation of adduction and retraction of the globe, and narrowing of the palpebral fissure on attempted adduction. The condition is caused by aberrant innervation of the lateral rectus by fibers of the oculomotor nerve. There are three subtypes: type 1 (associated with loss of abduction), type 2 (associated with loss of adduction), and type 3 (loss of abduction and adduction). Two loci for Duane retraction syndrome have been located, one at chromosome 8q13 (DURS1) and another at chromosome 2q31(DURS2). It is usually caused by congenital hypoplasia of the abducens nerve or nucleus, but may rarely represent an acquired syndrome. 1. Sutures (Suture)
05/01/2005 - "PARTICIPANTS: Twelve consecutive patients with ADD and Duane's syndrome type 2. INTERVENTIONS: Six patients treated by the full tendon rectus muscle transposition procedure alone were compared with 6 patients treated by the full tendon rectus muscle transposition combined with posterior medial fixation sutures"
05/01/2005 - "PURPOSE: To compare the surgical and functional results of full tendon rectus muscle transposition to the medial rectus muscle augmented with posterior medial fixation sutures in patients with adduction deficiency (ADD) and Duane's syndrome type 2. DESIGN: Retrospective nonconcurrent interventional comparative case series"
04/01/2001 - "CONCLUSIONS: Subjects with Duane syndrome and esotropia in primary position who had undergone augmented transposition of the vertical rectus muscles obtained improved head position and better alignment in primary position and had a reduction in the incidence of reoperation for undercorrection when compared with similar patients who had undergone vertical rectus muscle transposition without posterior lateral augmentation sutures."
07/01/2002 - "PURPOSE: Full tendon rectus muscle transposition surgery augmented with posterior fixation sutures has been shown to be effective in the treatment of abducens palsy and Duane's syndrome"
03/01/1997 - "CONCLUSIONS: The addition of lateral fixation sutures to full vertical rectus muscle transpositions improves the tonic abducting force of the procedure for patients with lateral rectus palsy and type I Duane syndrome without compromising adduction."
