Degeneration of INTERVERTEBRAL DISCS of the lumbar spine. It is among the most common of musculoskeletal disorders and has strong genetic determinants. Germline mutations have been identified in the ASPN, COL9A2, COL9A3, COL11A1, and MMP9 genes. OMIM: 603932
