oxysterol 7-alpha-hydroxylase
a widely distributed P-450 enzyme found in brain, testis, ovary, prostate, liver, colon, kidney, and small intestine; catalyzes 7-alpha-hydroxylation of a broad spectrum of substrates including dehydroepiandrosterone, pregnenolone, 25- or 27-hydroxycholesterol; is important in bile acid synthesis; mutation of CYP7B1 gene causes severe neonatal giant cell HEPATITIS
Also Known As:
25-HC 7alpha-hydroxylase; 25-hydroxycholesterol 7-alpha-hydroxylase; 25-hydroxycholesterol 7alpha-hydroxylase; 3 beta-hydroxysteroid 7-alpha-hydroxylase; 3 beta-hydroxysteroid-7 alpha-hydroxylase; 5 alpha-androstane 3 beta,17 beta-diol 7 alpha-hydroxylase; 5alpha-androstane-3beta,17beta-diol 7-alpha-hydroxylase; DHEA 7-alpha-hydroxylase; dehydroepiandrosterone 7-alpha-hydroxylase; dehydroepiandrosterone 7-hydroxylase; oxysterol 7 alpha-hydroxylase
