Cough

The EDRs for each drug were: codeine, 26; BW443C, 3;baclofen, 39; and 3-APPi, 3.6 We conclude that in both the cat and guinea pig baclofen inhibits cough by a central site of action, while 3-APPi inhibits cough by a peripheral site of action.

Effects of codeine, morphine and a novel opioid pentapeptide BW443C, on cough, nociception and ventilation in the unanaesthetized guinea-pig.
"
12/01/1994 - "
3-APPi (10 and 100 microg, i.c.v.) had no effect on capsaicin-induced cough in the guinea pig.5. In the cat, potencies (ED50) of the standards and GABA-B agonists by the i.v. route were: codeine(0.34 mg kg-1), BW443C (0.17 mg kg-1), baclofen (0.63 mg kg-1) and 3-APPi (2.3 mg kg-1).

2. Antitussive ED50s (with 95% confidence limits) for inhibition of cough induced by citric acid vapour were for codeine, morphine and BW443C respectively, 9.1(5.8-15), 1.3(0.7-2.4) and 1.2(0.6-2.6) mg kg-1 s.c.

Hypersensitivity (Allergy)
03/01/1992 - "
The model showed dose-dependent sensitivity to (a) a central acting opiate (morphine, ID50 = 1.5 mg/kg, i.p.), (b) cyclooxygenase inhibitors (indomethacin, ID50 = 0.8 mg/kg, i.p.; diclofenac, ID50 = 0.22 mg/kg, i.p.), and (c) peripheral analgesics which directly antagonize nociceptor hypersensitivity: dipyrone (ID50 = 21 mg/kg, i.p.), N-methyl-nalorphine (ID50 = 14 mg/kg, i.p.) and BW443C (ID50 = 17.5 mg/kg, i.p.).
